Sir Eggnatious “Egger Beggers” Benedict Adams, First of His Name, Fierce Knight of the Smithfield Relm and Lord Protector of the Dino Blanket, left this mortal coil and lept onto the Rainbow Bridge on Monday, January 24th, 2022. He passed doing one of the things that he loved best, playing and wondering where he shouldn’t have been because his beautifully Beagle nose often got him and his brother into trouble.
Egger Beggers was born on March 14, 2017. He spent every day of his life with his litter-mate and brother Lil Bacon. They were first brought home in early May 2017 by their adoptive human parents, Amy and Angus, and two of their human sisters. When they first came to their new home, they were introduced to their bonus dog-mom, Morticia. She was VERY unsure of these little monsters at the beginning but Eggers pursued “Tissue’s” heart with a vengeance and won. He had two glorious years of playing snuggling and running with his Tissue until her passing in 2019. Eggers took that very hard and spent three months dragging his beloved Dino Blanket in and out of Mom and Dad’s bathtub to sleep and grieve.
As time passed, Eggers really came into his own. He became a dad to a litter of pups but wasn’t allowed to go near them until they were about 8 weeks old. (Their mama was little, but fierce!!!!) Bessie, his daughter stayed with the family and became one of his runnin’ buddies. Eggs loved a good snuggle but only on his terms. He was a rather nervous boy by nature. He did battle weekly with the trash truck, he loathed fireworks but really enjoyed the doggy cannabis that he got to have on the 4th of July and New Year’s. He loved his blue Dinosaur blanket and was always sad when it was in the washer. His human Mama, Amy, was his favorite person but he loved all he came to know, quite well. Eggers had a way of looking at you that just provided comfort.
He was not a fan of fetch, tug of war, or even playing with a ball. His favorite activities were playing find the treats, napping by Mama or Daddy’s legs, hide and seek, snoofleing the ground for rabbits, squirrels and cats, and BAYING. He was the king of the arooooo! He LOVED cats. No matter what the cat thought, Eggers was thoroughly convinced that every single cat on the planet was his best friend! His very favorite cat was the station cat, Not Linda, where his Mama and Dad work. She loved him right back. Theirs was a sweet friendship of wandering the yard and chasing each other around the crew quarters. His favorite treat was a “strawboober,” more commonly known as the Strawberry flavored Scottie-dog snack by Gimball’s. (You can find them at tractor supply, they are pretty good, feel free to have one in memory of our little buddy.) Our favorite memory of Eggers will always be the after-shower round of hide and seek. He would bury his head and shoulders under a blanket and start thumping his tail when he hear the bathroom door open. Whoever was selected to play, was required to pretend to be stimied and say “Oh no! Where’s Eggers? Has anyone seen him?” This would cause his tail to thump harder and he would eventually peek his head out from under the blanket, grin, and look at you like he had fooled you again. That is the interaction that his Mama will forever miss the most. Toward’s the end of his life, he had started sleeping on a specially made bed in his big sister’s room and he would “knock” on her door when he thought it was time for bed.
Eggers was truly an “egg-septional” dog boy, he was deeply loved and is survived by his human parents, all of his big sisters, nephew Oliver James, his daughter, Bessie, and a host of friends, and family. Eggers was joined in death by his brother, High Lord Bacon, First of His Name, Protector of Naptime Snuggles, Knight of the Noms, The Velociraptor of Smithfield Drive. Our hearts are fuller for knowing them, emptier for losing them, and better for having raised them.
Thank you, boys, for choosing us as your family. May our souls meet along the way again.
-Mama
